Join Sonja Larsen for a rustic solar-powered weekend of creative time and inspiration on Howe Sound. Sweet little cabins await your dreams and ideas. With a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for writing and local & healthy food provided, it is sure to nourish your writing practice. Located on Gambier Island, the retreat is just 15 minutes away from Horseshoe Bay. 

Sonja Larsen is an award-winning author whose memoir Red Star Tattoo was shortlisted for the Writers Trust Hilary Weston award and won the Edna Staebler Creative Non Fiction award. Her creative non fiction won the 2018 Subterrain Lush Triumphant prize. Her work has also appeared in a variety of publications including Room, Descant, This Magazine, and the Globe and Mail.

What to expect:

Comfortable glamping with good food and good company. Located near Halkett Bay provincial park, mountain and ocean views are available almost everywhere on site. There is electricity and cell access but no wi-fi. There will be a morning discussion on writing craft and a writing exercise for you to consider throughout your writing day as well as opportunity for one on one consultation.

  • 1 guest cabin with adjoining bathroom (double occupancy)
  • 1 garden cabin with short walk to bathroom
  • 1 ‘tower’ cabin with short walk to bathroom

Food:


  • Local / free range and/or organic products
  • Friday evening / Sat breakfast / Sat lunch / Sat dinner / Sun breakfast / Sunday lunch
  • BYOB

Transportation:


Water taxi (not included) can be booked from Horseshoe Bay and is between $25-30 each way. Full details on transportation will be emailed to you when you book.

Sonja Larsen reserves the right to cancel due to insufficient registration or conditions that make any such activity unsafe. In the event of a cancellation deposits and payments will be refunded. *Deposits are non-refundable if you cancel less than 7 days before the retreat.
